Q: Why do Jewish marriages take place
under a Huppah?
A:The Huppah service is actually the
second part of the wedding ceremony. It begins as the groom walks with
the bride to the canopy.
The Huppah is held by four poles and
is covered on top with a cloth or tallit, symbolizing the homes they will
create together. The Huppah then is the emblem for a home. Opened
from all sides, it not only invites everyone to view the marriage but symbolize
how a Jewish house functions, welcoming strangers.
